I started crafting homemade cards for my family when I was a child. After college, I moved to New York City and established myself as a graphic designer, working for a variety of clients such as Condé Nast Publications, Harper's Bazaar, TBWA\Chiat\Day, The New York Society Library, and Charlie Palmer Restaurants (my graphic design work can be viewed at TheaKarasDesign.com). I soon found that I had an urge to produce my very own creations alongside my client-based work. Prompted by my dad's repeated suggestions that I create my own card line, I finally did just that, and sold my first holiday cards online in 2003. You can currently find Thea Karas Cards in specialty stores in both Brooklyn and Washington, DC.
I begin my design process by looking for inspiration in printed materials like magazines, catalogs, and newspapers. I cut out patterns, color combinations and shapes that catch my eye, using them to enhance a composition, though most often my designs develop organically through the collage process itself. My cards often include my own illustrations and in some cases even a few brushes of paint.
All Thea Karas Cards are original works and aim to add a unique touch to the card-giving world.
Enjoy!
